The 2011 IFM Freshie Camp was held on 20-21 May. It is a 2D1N Camp running from Friday night after class to Saturday night. The objective of the camp was to allow freshies to bond with each other among different classes, as well as building their sense of belonging to the course. The theme of the camp this year was Pirates. 97 Freshies were grouped into 4 Empires, namely Perle, Cranio, Haken and Gorrion, which mean pearl, skull, hook and sparrow in German.
The camp kicked off at 5pm on Friday. After registration, freshies proceeded to playing ice-breaking games in their groups. The group leaders (GLs) of different empires hyped up the freshies by playing games like Blow Wind Blow. There were also exciting forfeits at the end of each game.
Following the ice-breaking games were 3 station games, Tug-of-War, Walk the Plank and I Can Be the Oscar Awardee. Tug-of-War was definitely the most memorable game of the night as GLs and freshies come together to think of a playing strategy and stand united to pull the rope to victory with all their might.
Afterwards, it was the Mass Dance. Everyone enjoyed dancing the TP Mass Dance as we could see from all the smiley faces and laughter.
The last highlight of the day was the Night Walk. A horror movie was played at the Lecture Theatre to start the session. Meanwhile, groups of 4 or 6 freshies took turns to walk through the corridors and experience the scary night walk in TP. It was definitely a scary night.
On Saturday, a series of Amazing games kicked off the day, which included a total of 12 station games. Freshies had to find their game stations in TP and complete them, and at the same time competing with other groups for the best possible results.
After the Amazing Games, everyone had their lunch to energize and prepare for the Final Clash. Although everyone got wet during the game, they were also enjoying as they fought against each empire in the Lollipop and Attack and Defence.
After washing up and having dinner, the last event of the camp that all the empires had been preparing for the 2 days was the exciting Performance Night. Every empire came up with a performance related to Pirates and their very own and unique cheers. We could see that the freshies were very bonded as we saw every single one of them took part in the interesting performances such as dance and drama. GLs had definitely done a great job by leading and bonding the freshies.
Overall, the camp was a fantastic one with the hard work done by 19 Camp Planning Committees and the enthusiastic support and assistance by 50 helpers. Not only the freshies are bonded, helpers and planning committee including both year 2 and 3 students also forged stronger ties through this camp.
THANKS EVERYONE!
With love, IFMAY11/12
